Svenska Spel is a public company operating in the regulated gambling market in Sweden. Unlike privately owned and foreign game companies and online casinos Svenska Spel’s operations are controlled by the Gaming Board.
Svenska Spel formed in 1997 by a merger of the two state companies Penninglotteriet and Tipstjänst. Their headquarter is located in Visby. Their games are being sold through approximately 6700 agents, 2000 restaurants, pubs and bingo halls and via Internet. State returns from Svenska Spel is around 4 billion annually. In addition, a significant portion of the proceeds go to Swedish sports. 2005, this amounted to around 1 billion.
